having trouble using wine i installed play on linux im using ubuntu12.04 32 bit. with the gnome desktop.The only thing that shows from that is wine.I went there and in winetricks tried to add app firefox10 recieved a sha1sum rename message.right now im outa my league but willing to learn.

Forget about wine for a while. Learn to install software like Firefox. But, don't you have Firefox already install?

Unbuntu Software Center or Synaptic Package Manager should have plenty of software to install. Without using wine or compile from source codes.

Is there a pressing need to run firefox in a windows-like enviroment versus the stock ubuntu version? If you need help with learning how to use wine I'd suggest checking Gaming & Leisure, there is a subforum for wine there(mainly because the mods found the overwhelming wine support help needed is for games).

You don't have to worry about the wine stuff if you install "PlayonLinux"
Wine is a great program, but is always very difficult to deal with, even for pros. Playonlinux makes things simpler by installing wine, other dependencies (some .Net thing or whatever), automatically for each program. Its far more user friendly.
However, Windows programs running on linux will always have issues.
Firefox through wine/playonlinux does not make sense, unless there is something specific you want which only the windows version will do.
Run firefox natively, it will be much much better.

to watch some downloads like netflix , and ive used itunes for my phone

Has Silverlight made great strides in wine yet? If not whether you install a browser through wine, or not, Silverlight is the plugin needed to stream netflix. And as I've done a quick lookies around, still seems to be buggy in wine. And the alternative Moonlight still doesn't support netflix DRM.

silver light is that in the software center ill look for it thank you. Do i just use that with ubuntu firefox?

There is no way I know of, to watch netflix on Ubuntu.
Wine won't work for that.
I would be glad if this is wrong though.

If you want to watch netflix, best bet is to run windows through virtualbox.
